This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Chayn Acquires Garbo Assets to Scale Gender-Based Violence Support

As gender-based violence continues to rise at an unprecedented scale, two survivor-led nonprofits, Chayn and Garbo, are joining forces to meet the challenge.

Chayn, a global nonprofit making healing accessible for all survivors of gender-based violence, today announced a deal to acquire Garbo’s assets, a nonprofit with a mission to proactively prevent harm in the digital age.

Garbo has helped more than 3.5 million people since its founding in 2018. Known for developing a new kind of online background check targeting offenders with a history of harm, Garbo has advocated for better public record access for survivors and increased trust and safety efforts for consumer tech companies. Kathryn Kosmides, Garbo’s Founder and CEO, will sit on Chayn’s board of directors and has launched a consulting firm helping early-stage companies and creators build legacies that last.

“It’s gratifying to know that our legacy is in good hands with Chayn, which will continue to fight gender-based violence in the biggest and best ways possible,” says Kathryn Kosmides.

Chayn is one of the few organisations that has expanded their impact and services around gender-based violence in an increasingly challenging landscape. Today, Chayn provides free resources in over a dozen languages, trauma-informed training to companies, and their flagship service, Bloom, a digital platform that offers remote support through videos, written resources, and direct therapy support, including a custom version for Bumble users.

Chayn has been a leader in providing free resources in over a dozen languages, trauma-informed training for companies, and their flagship platform, Bloom — offering survivors digital support through videos and resources, including a custom version for Bumble users. Chayn is one of the few organisations that has expanded their impact and services around gender-based violence in an increasingly challenging landscape, and continues to innovate against gender-based violence including their newest tool Survivor AI, to help those impacted by image-based abuse.

“By continuing the great work done by Garbo, Chayn is proud to show that we are stronger together. In an era where so many women’s rights organizations are facing hard decisions, we can and should multiply each other's efforts for the greater good of survivors around the world,” says Hera Hussain, Founder and CEO of Chayn.

Chayn and Garbo began working together in 2022 and deepened this relationship when Kathryn Kosmides was invited to join Chayn’s board in 2024. By continuing to unite their expertise, the organisations are creating a stronger, more holistic response to the realities survivors face both online and in-person.

Garbo’s widely used content — including safety guides, quizzes, and blogs — will soon live within Chayn’s ecosystem of survivor-centered tools, expanding access to practical resources for survivors everywhere. Chayn’s acquisition of Garbo’s assets includes the transfer of all content and technology infrastructure, excluding user data and private information.
