New dean will shape the next generation of fertility specialists and present breakthrough findings at ASRM 2025.
IVF Academy USA today announced the appointment of Paul C. Magarelli, MD, PhD, MS, as Dean of the Clinical School. Dr. Magarelli, a double board-certified reproductive endocrinologist with more than two decades of leadership in fertility care, will lead the Clinical School in addressing one of the greatest bottlenecks in reproductive health: too few fertility doctors to meet the growing demand. Under his leadership, the Academy will train the next generation of clinicians through advanced, evidence-based programs.
Dr. Magarelli’s appointment comes as he prepares to present new research at the upcoming American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) 2025 Scientific Congress & Expo in San Antonio. His abstract, Creating a Model Training Program for Certified Fertility Gynecologists Performing in the IVF Clinic: Interim Report, highlights the impact of training certified fertility gynecologists (CFGs) to expand access and improve clinic efficiency. The study demonstrated that incorporating CFGs into busy IVF practices led to an 18% increase in new patients seen and a 9% increase in assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures performed. Importantly, the findings showed that clinical outcomes, including egg retrievals and embryo transfers, were non-inferior when performed by CFGs compared to board-certified reproductive endocrinologists.
“The CFG program is designed to directly address one of the most pressing challenges in fertility care: the shortage of reproductive endocrinologists,” said Dr. Magarelli. “By preparing OB/GYNs and advanced practice providers with rigorous, simulator-based procedural training, we can expand capacity without compromising quality and ultimately bring fertility care within reach for more patients.”
Housed within the Clinical School, the CFG program is a cornerstone of IVF Academy USA’s mission to grow the fertility workforce. The Clinical School focuses on up-training experienced healthcare professionals into CFGs who can support reproductive endocrinologists and expand patient access. It operates alongside IVF Academy USA’s other schools in laboratory science, business and nursing, which together create a comprehensive educational ecosystem.
Across every program, students engage in a carefully structured curriculum that integrates live instruction, asynchronous learning and extensive hands-on training with advanced simulators. Graduates earn a CME-accredited diploma, equipping them with the knowledge, confidence and credentials to lead in the evolving field of fertility care.
This work responds to a growing national need as demand for fertility care far outpaces supply. Nearly 2 million IVF cycles are needed each year and only ~400,000 are performed. By equipping more clinicians through its CFG program, IVF Academy USA is building the workforce needed to meet rising demand and deliver affordable, high-quality treatment nationwide.
